1. Allow positioning of elements at negative X/Y/Z coordinates

   I like the ability to position an element at a specific X/Y/Z coordinate in my room. But, if I accidentally position something too close to the zero X/Y position, the ENTIRE layout will shift, to allow room for that new element - which is obviously not ideal behavior.

   It looks like the "Z" position of track will happily go below the "Floor" of the room - which is fine, once we can establish elevation to Shapes I will WANT some areas below the floor (e.g. stairs coming up into the room). But you can't establish a negative X or Y value, if you try it'll shift EVERYTHING as necessary, then position the element you tried to edit at an arbitrary 0.98" from the wall. I'd rather that not happen :) so my preference, would be let me break through the wall and fix that later, rather than tossing all my careful positioning out the window.

2. multiple things I have noticed :

   1. command-scroll wheel should zoom in/out (in 2d and 3d view)
   2. in 3d view, shift could be used to select between strafe and rotate
   3. points don't seem to be graded (at least in the 3d view)
   4. the grading assistant needs to display the effect the controls would have on the tracks for better comprehension
   5. import picture should allow for a way to set scale (for instance drawing a line between 2 points and specifying a distance (in whatever unit) this would automatically size the image to fit whatever scale is used (have a control to specify scale on import, too)
   6. the printing window should allow to select part of the design.
   7. editing flex track should be allowed to be done with a 4 control point bezier / quadratic system
   8. rotation should also be possible using one of the track extremities as the rotation center

3. SCARM Import/Export

   I don't know if this has been suggested before, but I exchange data regularly with people who are not using railmodeller. SCARM seems to be a frequently used package in the Windows world, so an import/export feature would facilitate exchanges.

   Unfortunately there is no interchangeable file format between track planning apps.

4. More options for custom baseboard

   When designing a custom baseboard it is often difficult to draw perpendicular and parallel lines because you can only select the options length and straight while editing a line. The option to lock the line at 0 ( x-axes) or 90 degrees (y-axis) ( or even at ... degrees ) would make the design of the baseboard much easier and exact.

5. Shortcut to insert track

   For each catalog of elements,I would like to be able to assign key shortcuts to the elements I often use, so that when I type those keys, the corresponding element would be inserted at the position of the mouse pointer.

   To assign a shortcut, I would select an element in the catalog pane, use the popup menu to select "Add a shortcut" and type the key (or key combination). If the key combination is already taken by another element in the same catalog, an option to remove it from the old element is given. If it's a key combination that is taken elsewhere in the user interface, it would be prohibited. Otherwise, the key would be assigned to that element.

   Next, each time we're in the Edit mode, typing the key combo would insert the element at the mouse pointer.

   For each catalog of elements,I would like to be able to assign key shortcuts to the elements I often use, so that when I type those keys, the corresponding element would be inserted at the position of the mouse pointer.

   To assign a shortcut, I would select an element in the catalog pane, use the popup menu to select "Add a shortcut" and type the key (or key combination). 6. Elastic tracks

   I would like to suggest a feature to help designing railroads: elastic tracks.

   There would be three kinds of elastic tracks: straight and curved.

   A straight elastic track would be connected to other tracks of the railroads, and when one of those tracks are moved, the length of the elastic track would adjust automatically.

   A curved elastic track would have it’s curve radius specified (there could be one kind per curve radius available in the current library catalog), and when one of the connected tracks is moved, the angle of the elastic curved track would adjust automatically.

   A straight elastic track can be connected to curved elastic tracks, and curved elastic tracks can be connected between themselves, if not of the same radius or in the same orientation.

   The creation of an elastic track could be done in the UI as setting a flag on a given track (this would make the selection of curve radius for elastic track easy since implicit).

   The flexible track could also be set as elastic, so that moving connected tracks would readjust the flexible rail.

   Of course, if several elastic tracks are connected to the tracks being moved, they adjust simultaneously, while constraining the places where the track can be moved.

   To disconnect an elastic rail, the user would have to move it, instead of moving the connected rails.

   Finally, a command would let us replace the selected elastic rails by normal library rails, as with the Close Gap with Track command, with an option to leave a chunk of elastic rail if the gap is too large, or to Shorten a Track.

7. Library of footprint and icon images for standard Lionel Accessories

   It would be nice if you could select from a library images and footprints for items like Lionel #30 Water Tower, #456 Coal Ramp, or ramp for the #3472 Milk Car so we could design track plans that fit these accessories.

   In general we don’t include most of the accessories just due to the sheer amount of items available by the multitude of vendors out there..

   A dedicated editor for user-created track libraries is currently in the works that’ll enable creating custom tracks and other objects.

9. When moving or placing any item on the base board display the distance from the closest baseboard edge.

   Now we have to switch in and out if the ruler tool. Hard to count grid lines in 1/2" steps or less steps. Just take the ruler measurement from the left side and top and have it follow the item.

10. Rolling Stock Inventory

    macOS lacks a true model railroad rolling stock inventory program, and RailModeller would be a perfect fit, as it could piggyback off of the existing Track Stock database already built into the program. The existing database already keeps track of:
    Name
    Part Number
    Manufacturer
    Price

    Rolling stock would just need some additional values to keep track of:
    -Photo
    -Stock type (Steam locomotive/Electric locomotive/diesel locomotive/Hi-Railer/passenger car/freight car/caboose/custom value)
    -Length
    -Height
    -Minimum radius curve support
    -Operating options (conventional/DCC/DCS/TMCC/Legacy/custom)
    -Year manufacturered
    -Year acquired
    -MSRP
    -Price paid
    -Custom notes
    -Custom weblink (ie more info, link to manufacturer site, etc)

    It would be up to the end user to enter this data, of course, via a simple data entry form for each piece of stock.

    A neat feature to add down the road (since we'd be recording the height and length of the rolling stock piece) would be the ability to drop a piece of rolling stock onto the layout for scale/visibility reference in both the 2D and 3D views. It would help to gauge both vertical and horizontal clearance when planning curves, bridges, and tunnels, and would also be a good way to mock up the layout to see how things might look with some rolling stock placed in different areas.

12. A simple way of positioning tracks separated by a straight

    I'm often trying to position a couple of points/turnouts, so that one junction will line up exactly with the other. In other words, when you insert flex track between those junctions, the track will be straight.

    You could generalise this to arbitrary tracks, not just points/turnouts.

    One of the most valuable features of RailModeler (in my opinion) is the gap filler. However, when it finds a solution, all the permutations of the tracks are also listed. I am only interested in seeing a single, unique line for each solution, since I can easily permute the tracks manually, should I have the desire.

    The implementation requires only a few lines of code. (For each preliminary solution, form a set of the tracks. Keep only solutions, whose track sets are different. Sort the tracks according to their respective length.)

    If others like the feature as it is now, I argue in favour of an option in the preferences.

14. ability to create inventory of building

    In North America kits by Walthers and Woodland Scenics are used to name two manufacturers. I can create shapes that represent the dimensions but I can't save them with a name and have them show up in the parts list. I would like to see this feature. Other Windows apps have this feature,

16. show scale units

    I would like an option to show all distances in scale units, not real units. For example, if using HO scale parts, show 87 feet for each real foot. This would be helpful to judge how many cars will fit on a siding or how large a building is on the model. Thank you.

    I am working on a layout that uses both Tomix Tram pieces and standard Fine Trax pieces.

    What I would like is to be able merge those bits from track sets that I want into a quick reference set.

    So, I would have:

    Create a Worksheet palette. In that I can select track sets.

    Afterwards I can pieces from the selected tracksets or any other, to the item list.

    It saves me swapping from one track set to another and for a bigger layout can save quite a bit of time! This isn't the first time I've wanted this!
