Creating custom track libraries will be possible with the Library Editor module currently used internally and to be released as an optional add-on for all users soon.

Eine einfache Straßenerstellung mittels Bezier-Kurve + Angabe der Straßenbreite. Gerne auch mit Farbauswahl und wenn noch Luft ist, mit und ohne Mittelstreifen (auswählbar).

Rotating baseboards, turning off all dimensions for baseboards added for update 6.1

    AdminRailModeller (Manager, RailModeller) commented  ·

Hello Karl - the idea of the wizard is to provide starting points for commonly used baseplates. You can simply create the U-baseboard and edit the border lengths or corner points of one leg to change it to the desired dimensions!

    Hope this helps.

    AdminRailModeller (Manager, RailModeller) commented  ·

Better support for editing baseboards is planned!

    Quick tip:
The contextual menu already offers some options for editing baseboards (when the baseboard layer is active) like ordering baseboards to back/front or duplicating baseboards.

This should extend to searching the product number (name) and description of all kinds of elements, either in the current layout or the library catalog.

    AdminRailModeller (Manager, RailModeller) commented  ·

Searching for articles in the current layout and all track libraries is on our road map for a future update!

Not viable with current app store prices and the economic realities of what it costs to develop an iOS version of our app.

    AdminRailModeller (Manager, RailModeller) commented  ·

A full-fledged model railroad layout editor is put on hold for now as we cannot justify the investment for building a decent app with regards to the incredibly low prices iPad app are sold for these days.

Even major players are struggling with issue
    (https://www.panic.com/blog/the-2014-panic-report/)

So for our tiny company it would be suicidal..

A full fledged iPad app sure would be nice - but we would have to price it appropriately (i.e. similar price to the macOS app) and unfortunately realistically priced apps just don't work on iOS at this point.
(as many - much bigger - companies had to learn the hard way)

    AdminRailModeller (Manager, RailModeller) commented  ·

    It's actually planned -
viewing only but with the ability to toggle pretty much all the display modes and settings as in the desktop app!
Plus some community features to be introduced in the future..

    That could be tricky -
How to adjust individual points for a line with an arbitrary number of points when the length is changed?

However, editing individual point coordinates would be nice-to-have - plus we already have implemented something very similar in the (not yet publicly available) Library Editor module.

RailModeller Pro 6.0.4 introduces the "Shift Tracks Up/Down" functionality to adjust track heights for an arbitrary selection of track elements whilst keeping the grades.

The interactive height adjustment tool is scheduled for a v6.x update in early 2018

    AdminRailModeller (Manager, RailModeller) commented  ·

Absolutely - multiple tracks should be easy to adjust in height no matter how they're connected. The planned 'Change Height' tool is supposed to address this (in the coming weeks).

    AdminRailModeller (Manager, RailModeller) commented  ·

    Also in relation to https://railmodeller.uservoice.com/forums/249335-railmodeller-feature-requests/suggestions/11535912-be-able-to-relatively-adjust-height-of-multiple-tr
a new tool to simply push/pull a track to adjust its (+ connected tracks) height while keeping grades could make track height adjustments less tedious.

    Hi Harald,

thanks for your input. It's on the to-do list but unfortunately resources for a small project like ours are limited.

    AdminRailModeller (Manager, RailModeller) commented  ·

    Additional note:

Max. elevation constraint will be added as an optional setting for each layout.
All layout constraints will appear as messages or warnings and won't prevent users from 'violating' them.

    AdminRailModeller (Manager, RailModeller) commented  ·

Max. elevation per layout will be added soon.

Grades >10% - which is already very steep, usually 4-5% shouldn't be exceeded - are a problem since at this much inclination tracks are starting to get significantly shorter (as viewed from above) and we cannot guarantee the connections between tracks make sense any more..

Technically it would be relatively easy to detach all tracks in such a hidden/detached layer.

    However -
While it could be a useful feature for advanced users it would be potentially dangerous for casual users of the app, i.e. effectively offering an option to "shoot yourself in the foot" when activating this feature by accident and subsequently planning layouts that cannot be built physically.

So if I understand this correctly this would be similar to how Layer lists expand e.g. in Illustrator or Affinity Designer: https://goo.gl/images/urXg7a

A nice feature indeed, though ideally an opt-in to not confuse users starting with the app or not too familiar with 'big' vector drawing/CAD apps.

Thanks for the input - treating modules pretty much as immutable groups sounds like the best way forward at this point. Possibly with the inclusion of a baseboard!

    AdminRailModeller (Manager, RailModeller) commented  ·

Definitely on the road map at some point.
It would also be awesome to share modules online and allow people to build 'virtual club layouts' by combining the online modules - and share the 'club layouts' online as well, or at least share a picture..

Building blocks should be organized by

    - model scale (e.g. all H0 blocks),
    - optionally filtered by track library (show only blocks w/ Atlas True Track elements)

    AdminRailModeller (Manager, RailModeller) commented  ·

(by Carlo Filippo Follis Carlo Filippo Follis on July 24, 2017)

Often in a large layout, geometries of tracks is equal and are repeated.

It would be useful to create a function to store binary groups. This "Macros" function would make the design of complex layouts faster.

This function may be called, for example, by:

    H0 »Tracks » Macros

However, if you choose to create a Menu as Shape or Smart Insert, the user should not abandon the binaries library he has in use.

The name of the Macro must be decided by the user.
Macro should also be subject to the brand of binaries used. For example:

    – Fleischmann HO Profigleis
    – – Macro 1

    and also:

    – Miscellaneous
    – – Macro misc 1

To better understand the utility of the function you can look at the sample image:
    http://www.carlofilippofollis.name/files/2017/07/railmodeller-idea-n-003-macros.jpg

The function can be useful for tracks but also for groups of building or ...

    AdminRailModeller (Manager, RailModeller) commented  ·

"Some track constructions and standard and repetitive. There is a best way to construct a 72 inch radius reverse loop, a crossover, or parallel track with clearance for long cars on curves. I am sure your users could name many more. You could save them time by adding these to your smart options."

= A library of common building blocks, possibly shared between all users, with appropriate categories (by scale or library)

    AdminRailModeller (Manager, RailModeller) commented  ·

General snippet manager would store snippets locally.

Along with community sharing for layouts later this year this could further be extended to include 'public domain' snippets shared by other users.

    AdminRailModeller (Manager, RailModeller) commented  ·

Similar to 'text snippets' in text editors one could mark a selection of tracks and make it available in all layouts for quick access

Position by anchor can be useful in certain cases but it's probably not a very commonly used feature.
Would a positioning popup help, that could be invoked via the contextual menu of an element (or the menu bar)?
