   I am in the very same situation where I "play" through various different versions in different layers.
   It would be nice, if there would be an option in the preferences - next to the checkbox for "display disconnected joints" - allowing to display disconnected joints in similar layers where tracks are on top of each other in different layers after the layer has been duplicated. By default that option, like a checkbox, is disabled (for casual users) and can be enabled by advanced users.
