Importing graphic file
I'd like to import a graphic file of a sketch of a layout (Jpeg, gif eps or pdf)and use this as the basis to build my trackplan.
No available in RailModeller Pro 5.2

@Jay Pastelak -- this is already possible using the image import feature.
You can find out more in the 'Working With Images' section in the user guide! -

I'd love to be able to import a jpeg or png file over which to draw my plan.

this would be a great feature since I can draw in Photoshop.

Thank you! That is good news. Best wishes, Rick

To be added in Update 5.2 (currently in public beta testing, to be released in September).

This would be very useful, I am currently relaying my 7 1/4" garden railway which uses sectional track (3m long sections!) and using a scaled down railset I created for the task. Best wishes, Rick

We are currently working on a new feature to import background images for the upcoming major update 5.2!

Absolutely agree -
background images/image layers are to be added early this year, it's one of the top 3 features on the short-term roadmap!

I'm definitely waiting for this feature to get RM Pro. I do have a huge handmade layout in scale 1:10 that i would like to use to build my new plan - at least i would like to use huge parts of this original layout (like stations etc.)
So this is my most important feature missing - if i could i would give this all my 10 votes

Ideally images should be imported and resizable/movable as their own layers
Use caseImport of images of existing prototype layouts from various sources - old O/S maps, google earth etc, used as a patchwork to inform the overlay and planning of models based on those real life locations.

+1 for this
Import of prototype plans, or google earth snippets as images would help modelling tracks to match real life locations. -

This would be amazing! Would be able to import scetches of track plans and then "fill" them out with correct track.
Could also be a nice way to add custom mountain drawings etc.

An 'image' layer type with dedicated tools will be introduced.
The feature didn't quite make it into the 5.0 release but as we'll switch to a 2-4 week release cycle now we're expecting it to show up pretty soon after version 5 goes life on the Mac App Store!

Being able to change the background with an image file is a very good idea. The initial sketch could grow with the track plan and eventually become a "publishable quality" part of the final plan. I think this was mentioned in another suggestion too.
