  1. Library Editor

I would like to be able to design new track components and add them to my personal library. The most complicated component would be a switch. I am buliding handlaid narrow gauge track using stub switches. How do I put my designs into my library? Just for off the wall, suppose I had a 4'8.5" inch gauge layout. My switches would all be custom. So it I'm BNSF and wanted to use this software to lay out a new yard, how would I do it?

  2. Streets

    From our backlog:

    Street Elements (dynamic)
    - include options for customizing
    * center strip (double, color)
    * number of lanes
    * width of lane

Optionally handle crossings with other roads, heights

  3. Automatic calculation of clearances

Clearances around track follow specific rules

    https://www.nmra.org/sites/default/files/standards/sandrp/pdf/s-7_2012.02.pdf

    https://www.morop.org/index.php/fr/nem-normes.html

It would be nice if RM could automatically calculate them and show a shaded area around the tracks. This would help a lot in planning buildings and other structures not to interfere with proper track operation. I think this is an essential part of track planning. Since this can all be mathematically calculated with simple formulas, it should not be so hard.

  4. Model baseboard topography (Terrain modelling)

Some way that the topography of the baseboard can be changed from just flat so that the user can model hills/cliffs/valleys etc on their layout

  5. Direction of Travel markers

Some way of indicating intended direction of travel along a given section of track.

  6. Package quantities for pricing in the parts list.

Currently when looking at the required parts list for a layout the price of the parts does not take into account the number of that part in a package from the manufacturer. As an example, I require 3 straight sections of track to complete my layout. These sections are sold in packs of 4 at a price of $8.00. If I plug in the $8.00 for the package of 4 (how they are sold) the system will multiply that cost to $24.00 because it thinks each individual track costs $8.00.

  7. Track transition curves/Easements (= Euler spirals)

Actual railway uses Euler spiral for curves transitions. I would be nice to have an assistant to draw them in RMP
    - From Radius,
    - To Radius,
    - Overall angle.

  8. Use Layers for Alternatives (Detach Layers)

I'm in the process of updating a layout to the new version of the software. In that process, I've decided to design two different alternatives for some optional add-ons to the layout. However, those alternatives are mutually exclusive and require replacing a couple of track segments in order to provide the correct interface to the main layout.

It would be nice if I could hide the layer for Option 1 and then connect tracks to the now (apparently) disconnected tracks on other layers in the Option 2 layer.

Essentially, it would be nice if there was a way to tell…

  9. Change look of cursor

Change the cursor in paint brush when painting
Change the cursor in dropper when picking a color
Right ow you want to choose an element, but because you forgot to change the cursor you remove it, or paint it because you do not see in what mode you are.

  10. Flex track calculator for cut of rest bits

I use quite a number of flex tracks to fill in lengths of tracks that aren't available. So I have quite a lot of rests lying around which I can still use in other parts of my layout.

Now Railmodeller always calculates a full new flex track if you go to the itinerary list where you can also see the costs.

Imagine, RailModeller could have a preference like: Keep rest Flex Track-Cut-Offs longer than ... mm (or ...%) or even 0.
Then RailModeller could calculate the needed FlexTracks on the sum of the flex track lengths used in the layout.…

  11. Add “Anchor point selector” (similar to Affinity, Illustrator, InDesign, ..) for positioning

We often have to modify graphic objects. It would be useful to modify, for example, the length of a rectangle while maintaining the placement of its center point.

This feature would also allow you to know the various anchor points ( X/Y measurements) of the object without having to calculate it. Knowing the different measures is needed to match another graphic element with utmost precision.

  12. baseboard elevation

I'm doing a multi-layer layout and would love to have more then 1 base board level, since my 2nd level is just floating in mid air.

So with that, being able to adjust base board level - would be awesome. Also more then 1 base board layer would work well here.

  13. Specify custom track bed width (Printing sub-roadbed)

After printing on full size you need to draw the plywood sub-roadbed manually. I would like to see a option for a sub-roadbed with adjustable width. A preview of the sub-roadbed in 3D would also be nice.

  14. Favorites in Libraries

I am building a layout with Atlas Track but know I want to focus on certian parts and NOT use others. I would love to be able to mark my "favorites" and see them in the list. Would make it much easier to find what I am looking for and protect me from use a snap switch for instance when that isn't my preferred product.

  15. Ability to set the maximum grade/elevation

Currently the maximum elevation is set to 10%, hard coded in the SW. For rack rail it is no problem to have it to 35%.

Would be nice when it is possible to set the maximum elevation by the user, 10% for example is already 'a lot' for standard tracks.

Having two limits would be the way to go:
1: The current 10% that can be set by the user, when you go over it, you get a warning, not a message that it is not possible.
2: The upper limit, for example 35%, where you get the message that…

  16. Grade and Height adjustments

Height adjustments are a pain. Start over. Make them intuitive. One adjustment to close gaps should not wipe out an entire grade or reset the height of an entire layer.

  18. A smarter, easier to use gap closing function

Don't call it "smart" gasp closing when I can do better by eyeball. There are too many steps to the process. Again, make it intuitive and easy to use.

  19. Curve radius presets and options

Many O Scale Locomotives and passenger cars require a minimum radius of O72. According to the creator of fastback most will run on as tight a cutie as O48 at reasonable speeds.

Allow users to preset a minimum curve of O72 with optional use of O60 and O48 curves in specific situations. Concurrently, display only the library for the minimum curve and above unless tighter radiuses are opted for.

  20. Contour lines for drawing terrain

The polygon tool is a headache because it inserts drag points in ways you don't want and you have to double click to undo them.

Simple contour lines with and assignable height would simplify terrain drawing.
