Ability to create modules and being able to plan modular railroad arrangements
We have a lot already and need mainly a new supporting feature: Transfer (small) layouts to Railseteditor to create modules

This has been in the planning stage for 10 years. Is there anywhere in the forum to see what is being considered? I build the track for individual modules and attach a rectangle to it. This works, but I can no longer snap the track together. Keeping the track and module outline in separate layers would be nice but remain linked. Assigning a color to the module outlines and totaling the number of modules of that color with a label would be useful. Since several individuals are interested in this, any way to make link in the forum where this could be flushed out?
Thanks -

I'm using Free-Mo and I agree, it would be terrific to be able to build a "Module" (possibly with multiple Layers, e.g. track, scenery, roadbed, baseboard, etc) and to be able to lock a single module to be able to treat it as a fixed unit - move it into place, rotate it, etc.
I would also like to be able to quickly take a "Module" into its own development window, where it gets positioned to 0"/0" X/Y and I can make changes to the module (including setting elements exactly by position as Friso commented, so that we have exact alignment with other Modules), then take it back into my "Layout" window again as a single object that I can manipulate with my other modules.

Just having an easy way of snapping the track to an edge and to position the centre line of a track element at a certain distance would be great...
So I'm working on a five module layout, at each module the track centre line will be a certain distance from (say) the bottom. At the moment getting the track postponed just right is an absolute nightmare!

Are there still plans to add this feature?

Thanks for the input - treating modules pretty much as immutable groups sounds like the best way forward at this point. Possibly with the inclusion of a baseboard!

It almost worked for me just using the Railset Editor.
I draw the modules with polygon shapes. Then I set up the tracks and arranged the track connector at the edges of the module.
So a module behaves just like a single piece of track in RRM.
Only building the layout on the module in RS editor is more work then in RRM.
Maybe it is not so hard if we can do the following in RS editor:
Copy 'bundled' components of an element into another element.
That means you can build an element out of existing elements track pieces (other elements as tracks, switches) -
Definitely on the road map at some point.
It would also be awesome to share modules online and allow people to build 'virtual club layouts' by combining the online modules - and share the 'club layouts' online as well, or at least share a picture.. -

This would be a great feature, long missed in many places! Ideal would be to state track center from one edge, when using different module standards (FREMO, and others), and then also giving the module measurements. Then track upon one module should follow when moving the module, in order to plan module layouts. Would be a first I think! :-)
